Gary Coleman was an ambitious yet skeptical child. He was from a young age interested in military history, philosophy, politics, and strategy. These interests weren't approved of by his mother, who was concerned that should her son join the military he'd be killed in a foreign war, her family name, gone. This disapproval led Coleman to pursue a more academic life, at least for now. Gary was out on a studying expedition with his class when the Separatist drop-ships fell onto his home planet of Antar 4. Gary didn't know at the time, but this would lead him away from a path of insignificance, and instead down a path of glory and honor. The class saw the droids fall from the ships and begin marching towards the group, they began to panic and grow terrified. It was at this point of hopelessness though that Coleman jumped up onto a large rock and shouted to his classmates for them to follow him, as he quickly led them down further into away from civilization, and the droids. Coleman, a Gotal had head cones allowing him to detect electronic pulses from very far away, with these he could sense the droids getting closer even if the droids didn't see him. Once deep into the woods Coleman opened his map from his day-bag and led his classmates to a remote village where his uncle worked as a speeder mechanic. With help from his uncle, Benji, he would take the whole class on a speeder to an airstrip where they would be flown to Coruscant.

The classmates were desperate for news from their home on Antar, but Gary feared the worst, he had studied separatist atrocities and war crimes, he believed that the defenseless Gotal people of Antar would be rounded up and enslaved or executed. With his quick discovery of the separatist invasion however, Republic forces from Coruscant would be able to travel to Antar, and help evacuate many Gotals to the Republic occupied planet of Atzerri. This would award Coleman himself recognition from the people of Antar, and the people of Coruscant. Coleman held a secret though, one that he was not very interested in letting slip. Coleman was force sensitive, and though siding mostly with the republic, he had little interest in joining the Jedi. He believed that they would use him as a tool for their 'peacekeeping' missions, which more often than not limited the natives way of life, and only attracted more problems to wherever they went, such as the separatists and the Sith.

Now alone, and away from his mother, Coleman almost immediately applied to join the military academy of Coruscant. Who hearing of his exploits and seeing his excellent test scores, took him in very quickly. Coleman passed through these next few years learning everything about various forms of leadership, military strategy and technology, as well as more personal topics such as philosophy and government. Coleman soaked up every lecture and read every book. He was in love with the academy and upon graduation was not only awarded valedictorian of his class, but was also said to be 'A student with the brain of a Jedi, the passion of a Sith, and the skill of a Master.' according to his headmaster, Damascus. With this experience and the excuse he needed, Coleman joined the Republic as a Garrison Commander at Ypres VI. Being a garrison commander meant serving as a defensive bastion typically on the outer border between Republic and Separatist forces. This meant long boring weeks of waiting for any kind of news. Although it wasn't more than a year before the Confederacy of Independent Systems would attack the planet. They brought many ships, tanks, and guns. Hoping to capture Coleman so that he may surrender Republic secrets.

Coleman positioned his forces along the battlements of the old cities of Ypres. The CIS approached, and held their ground just outside the walls. Coleman made his decision, the CIS had more artillery, more troops, and more ships on the way. He needed to catch them off guard and quick. Coleman ordered his soldiers pursue a guerrilla warfare campaign against the separatists. The clones hid within marketplaces, rooftops, hillsides, caverns, and waited. Three of Colemans artillery batteries fired salvos at the CIS forces, who were expected as much from him, they immediately advanced and "captured" the towns. Under the vale of nightfall, the clones moved to the droid bases and placed satchels of EMP grenades in their camps. They also sabotaged the separatist ships so that they couldn't escape. When the next sun rose, the grenades were detonated. Causing massive confusion and hysteria amongst the CIS forces. The clones then moved in to destroy the remaining droids and capture separatist leaders. Many high ranking CIS generals and marshals fled to their ships, which once they attempted to takeoff, would crash immediately into the ground again, some of these crashes would result in the totaling of the ships, while other crashes resulted in In Air Collisions, which often resulted in casualties of CIS droids, supplies, intel, and their higher ranking generals.

For his heroic seemingly impossible victory at Ypres VI Coleman would be promoted to Field Marshall of the Grand Army of the Republic. However Coleman would not be as interested in this position, as he preferred to lead by example, and this desk-job would lead him to discomfort, and dissatisfaction with his current lifestyle. Coleman would at this point be reaching the age of thirty. And though he would likely live late into his seventies, he desired a change in his life sooner than later. Coleman would travel back to Coruscant, where he would retire from his military duties, and receive full honors.

Gary Coleman lived in Coruscant for another two years before making any major decisions on what direction he wished to follow. He spent most of his days gambling away his military paycheck in the underworld, and most nights could be found unconscious at a barstool or at a nightclub with a Twi'lek girl. Coleman had little to complain about, as this was a life that most in the underworld of Coruscant could only dream of living. Though one night Gary would wake up at about 14:00 with bags under his bloodshot eyes he rolled out of bed, threw on basic robes and went to the mirror. He remembered the man he used to be, the man that his mother loved. The one who was to carry a long legacy for his family name. He threw water into his face, and decided to stop living a life of degeneracy, meaninglessness, and lies. He would become a Jedi.

Alone, with nothing but his most basic clothing he appeared alone in the dark at the steps to the Jedi Temple. He never believed he would have come this far. He never figured this is where the boy back at Antar would go. However it all added up to him in that moment. With the moonlight gleaming off the rain puddles of the lonely streets. Gary was no longer that boy. No longer the Savior of Antar, or the Defender of Ypres VI. Coleman was to pursue a more humble life of secrecy and discipline. Not unlike the soldiers he once led, he now, would be surrendering his life to the Jedi council and the masters who would lead him. He would follow the Jedi code and partake in all their rituals. With this thought and direction in his head. Much like a soldier leading a charge into battle. Coleman would step through the door of the Temple, and never look back.
