So with the recent update and the varying opinions on it, I've decided to throw my hat into the ring and give my two cents on the update, how it affects the server and future outlooks. Before I begin, I would like to state I will try and be as transparent as possible throughout this entire thing as I know the opinions on this update are just two extremes facing against each other.
Firstly, the Update itself was a welcomed idea, players waiting for 4.0 are getting small tastes of content like 3.1 and 3.1.5, and I'm sure the majority of the playerbase wanted something to sate them until the inevitable 4.0 release, which is planned to drop "soon", and it followed suit when the server restarted at 7:00 AM CST, with a few hotfixes by Atlas the update proved to have changed a lot, but sometimes change doesn't always mean good.
After a few hours and when people actually started logging on and seeing what skill trees they could make. The first game-breaking build was an 8000HP 850 Armor Fury build that gave you 333 dmg with an artifact if you do a base attack and around 450-480 for a heavy. This was the opposite of what the update was supposed to fix, it was obvious what Shepard was going for with the new update, trying to dissolve tank+DPS builds and making builds more defined, like having healers be healers and not healer+tank, or having Force users be force users without being force+DPS, but that proved to have not gone very well. A few hours later and probably with 100+ messages about this, Shepard tweaked the entire thing, which ended up just making it all worse.
Instead of fixing it, the builds were indeed more defined, but so defined to the point where it was just a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. If you had a DPS build, you'd be a Glass Cannon and be destroyed by Force Users, if you had a Force Build, you would be overwhelmed by Tanks, if you had a Tank build, you'd be annihilated by DPS. And Healers were just cast off to the side, with it being unusable unless you are a high level. Troopers are practically the same, being destroyed by all three branches now due to their now slow movement speed.
This lead to mass panic, everyone speccing into Force User trees now and running around Tatooine unable to be killed. Glass Cannons just trying to parry another guy in a duel to win by parrying and landing 800+ dmg ticks ending the duel in under a minute. Tanks falling in the middle, trying to take out force users but being overwhelmed when 3+ force users attack one tank. This proved to be an issue.
And that is all in just the first day. Obviously, Shepard will probably make changes in the coming days and this probably will just be something we can all laugh about in a few weeks time to crack jokes about. Though my concern is people already making claims of not wanting to play on the server with this update JUST being released. I think people need to chill and let the update fix itself, come a week or two if it still isn't fixed then that is a warrant for concern. Though at this point there is literally nothing to be worried over. Whether you are worried or not is your own ordeal, this is just what I have observed on the Server, on the Forums, and in the Discord. Nonetheless, I am very interested in how Shepard will move forward with future changes and maybe this update will make him reconsider some things in 4.0, but we will just have to wait and see.
Tl:dr; 4/10 too much force
